Happy New Year

Happy New Year! Yes, I know that January is nearly over, but I wanted to share my new way of approaching goals for 2025. It is common to set New Year Resolutions on Jan 1, but it is not as common for people to actually stick with them.

This year I filled out a BINGO board. That's 24 goals I would like to accomplish in 2025. The thing I love the most about it is that I have 12 months to work on 24 things and no matter if I get one BINGO or fill the whole board, I am still winning. That sounds so much more attainable!

I was very intentional with my plans. Instead of: read one book a month I changed it to: Read 12 books this year. That way if I don't finish a book in January, I don't feel like I failed and give up with 11 months to go.

Over the Christmas holiday I reflected on how too often patients share that they have struggled for a long time or they have seen other specialists without relief. So, I am asking you that if you know someone in a similar situation to help share about what we do. That way we can make 2025 the year that KVDC reaches out to our community and lets them know that help is available.

What ways do you want to grow, learn, challenge, or change? I encourage you to think about your goals in 2025 and please join me in this adventure!

It is not difficult to think that clear vision is required to excel in a classroom. Unfortunately, many children will not complain even when their vision is holding them back. Most children assume that how they see is how everyone sees. They think that it is normal even if things are blurry or double.

What can parents look out for when students are staying quiet?

  • Headaches (especially after school)
  • Frequent blinking
  • Poor fluency or comprehension
  • Great recall when read to, but not when reading independently
  • Preferring board books/graphic novels to chapter books

You can find more information on our website. To check your or your student's symptoms for the likelihood of a binocular vision problem, please use our Symptom Checklist.

Patient Spotlight: Vision Therapy Is Not Just for Kids

While we help a lot of children, it is important to

understand that it doesn’t matter how young or

old you are – the same type of vision problems

that interfere with a child’s ability to read and

learn, can also interfere with work

performance, etc.

Congratulations to our new graduate, Eve!

Eve shared that before Vision Therapy she was seeing double, having dizzy spells, headaches, getting carsick on road trips, feeling sleepy from eyestrain, and had blurry vision. Her left eye was significantly more closed due to overcompensating for her vision.

"Now both of my eyes are equal again. Thank you Amy for all of your help! Amy and Dr. Conway made this a wonderful and successful experience!"

It was so heartwarming to hear Eve's husband support her through her program. He would often share about how she was now able to beat him when playing their games and he was so happy to see her thriving again! We are so proud of your hard work and will miss you at the office!
